In Limbo
exhibition design
09/2021

"In limbo" is an autobiographical exhibition in which visitors can experience a typical night of my life. The design of the space allows for a combination of event and exhibition space, so that not only texts and images convey personal information, but also walk-through exhibits, concerts and DJ sets open up individual experiences for each visitor. It is divided into three main areas, whereby it is up to the visitor to decide where to start.

Experiencing new and remembering the past are at the heart of this exhibition.

Solo project/My roles: idea, concept, moods, sketches, 3D modelling w/ Cinema 4D, rendering w/ Redshift.

Intro
The intro is located at the end of a long, dark corridor illuminated by streetlights, reminiscent of a road junction. This is where visitors decide how they want to begin their tour: In the bar, which represents my childhood, or in the kiosk, which serves as a collection of my memories, with a round of corners at sunset before the event begins.

Bar (the childhood)
Growing up in a place known for its wealth, beauty and tourism. Far from the reality of the world, the postcard idyll that keeps up appearances. As the daughter of a gastronome, my childhood included a lot of time - working - in my parents' restaurant, so the theme of this space was decided easily. The exhibits include texts, a collection of postcards and photographs. Supported by personal stories from my life told by the barkeeper, visitors can gain an insight into what it means to grow up and break out on Lake Tegernsee.

Bathroom (the breakdown)
Gaining clarity, calming down - a bathroom is sometimes the only refuge to escape the crowds and to cope with feelings of panic, a racing heart and shortness of breath. Darkness, strobe lights and a sloping floor intensify these feelings. In addition, personal texts from the time are displayed on the walls and are also reproduced in a sound installation.

Hall (by night)
Concert halls, festivals, clubs, every kind of stage and venue has fascinated me since my youth. Here you can lose yourself and get away from the stress of everyday life. Over 600 concerts later, which can be read on the walls, I take visitors across the corridor into the dark hall. A room filled with concert memories, festival feelings and an underground club atmosphere where DJ sets take place. If no performance is planned, you can experience recordings of live sets via sound & light every 30 minutes.

Hall (daytime)
Through the glittering curtain, which is a reminder of the cult club “Atomic Café” in Munich, you enter the bright side of the hall. A place where concerts can take place. If not there is a ongoing light installation with changing sunrises and sunsets. The hanging exhibits in the room are both a place to sit and a projection surface for photos. Visitors can find analog snapshots of past concerts and festivals here.

24/7
The last or first space, depending on how you start your journey through the exhibition, is the kiosk, the Trinkhalle, the Späti, Minimarkt or 7/11 - a connected space that can be discovered anywhere in the world, and which for me can be understood as a cultural image of a country, a city or a village. A place that brings together distance and home for me. A meeting of different places where I have lived or traveled. Herer visitors will find a mixed assortment of products from these destinations.
